Bobcats Drop Road Contest to Southeastern CC After Tough Fifth Inning
A nine-run fifth inning proved too much for the Bobcats to overcome, as they fell 12-2 to Southeastern Community College-Whiteville on Friday afternoon.
The Bobcats opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. Chris Johnson launched a solo home run to left field, and Ben Malone added a run with a well-placed sacrifice bunt, giving the visitors an early 2-0 lead.
Southeastern responded in the bottom half of the inning. Dylan Dotson grounded out to bring in a run, Joe Walker singled to left to tie the game, and a passed ball allowed another run to score, giving the Rams a 3-2 lead.
The fifth inning proved decisive, as Southeastern exploded for nine runs on six hits. Joeseph Dolinshek delivered the big blow with a grand slam to left field. Owen Pridgen added a two-run double, followed by RBI doubles from Dotson and Brett Cassell, stretching the lead to 12-2 and putting the game out of reach.
Riley Ruiz earned the win for Southeastern, tossing five innings and allowing just three hits and two runs while striking out two and walking one. Casey Proctor took the loss for the Bobcats despite a solid outing, striking out seven over 4.2 innings while surrendering seven runs (six earned) on seven hits.
Bishop Quarles led the Bobcats offensively, going 2-for-2 at the plate. Johnson and Malone each drove in a run. The Bobcats played clean defense, committing no errors, with Dakota Doll recording a team-high eight chances in the field.
Southeastern racked up 11 hits in the game. Dolinshek led the way with four RBIs and went 2-for-3. Pridgen, Braden Soles, and Walker also collected two hits apiece for the Rams.

Chris Johnson had a monster day at the plate, driving in five runs on four hits to lead the Bobcats to a 12-8 victory over Southeastern Community College-Whiteville on Friday.
Johnson doubled in the third inning to bring home two runs and later blasted a three-run homer to left field in the sixth to extend the Bobcats' lead. He finished the day 4-for-5 at the plate.
Both teams showcased strong offensive performances—Bobcats racked up 12 hits, while Southeastern tallied 10.
The Bobcats struck first in the third inning behind an RBI single from Diego Melendez and Johnson's two-run double. Southeastern answered in the bottom half of the frame, taking a 4-3 lead after a solo home run by Owen Pridgen, an RBI single from Jackson Crute, and a two-run homer by Joeseph Dolinshek.
Josh Smith's RBI single tied the game in the fourth, but Southeastern responded with back-to-back solo shots from Braden Soles and Brett Cassell to go ahead 7-4.
The Bobcats bounced back with a four-run fifth, highlighted by Dakota Doll's bases-clearing double and a run scored on a wild pitch to retake the lead, 8-7.
Johnson's three-run homer in the sixth provided key insurance, and Bishop Quarles added a solo shot in the seventh to cap the scoring.
Derek Arrocha earned the win for the Bobcats, pitching three innings in relief and allowing just one run on two hits while striking out five. Jason Johnson started the game, striking out six over three innings. Brayden Smith also appeared in relief. Ashton Wolfe took the loss for Southeastern after surrendering six runs across four innings.
Quarles and Melendez each collected multiple hits for the Bobcats. Justin Smith stole two bases as part of the team's four swipes on the day. Defensively, the Bobcats were flawless, committing no errors, with Doll recording 13 chances in the field.
Dolinshek, Crute, and Soles each had two hits for Southeastern, while Cassell, Dolinshek, and Soles each drove in two runs.
The Bobcats will be back in action on the road Friday in a rematch against Southeastern Community College-Whiteville.

Johnson got the scoring started in the second inning with a solo shot to center field. Dakota Doll followed with an RBI double down the right field line, helping the Bobcats jump ahead early.
Justin Smith added to the lead in the third with a two-run double to make it 5-0.
The Bobcats broke the game wide open in the fourth inning, plating six runs on five hits. Bishop Quarles launched a solo homer, Ben Meeks and Nelson Zapata each added RBI singles, and Diego Melendez doubled in two more. Quarles capped off the inning with another RBI single.
The fifth inning saw another offensive explosion, with the Bobcats scoring seven more runs. Melendez singled in one before Johnson unloaded a grand slam to center field. Angel Arjona and Meeks each tacked on RBI singles to push the score to 18-0.
Clayton Cooksey earned the win on the mound, tossing five shutout innings. He allowed just three hits, struck out four, and walked one. Southeastern's Tristan McGee took the loss, giving up six runs across three innings.
Melendez had a perfect day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with multiple RBIs. Quarles, Doll, Smith, and Meeks each recorded multiple hits in the Bobcats' 18-hit performance. On the bases, the Bobcats swiped five bags, and in the field, they remained error-free. Johnson led the team defensively with five plays.
Brett Cassell, Joeseph Dolinshek, and Conley Steed accounted for the only hits for Southeastern. Despite the loss, Southeastern also played clean defensively, committing no errors, with Jackson Crute leading the team with four fielding chances.
The Bobcats will carry this momentum into their next matchup as they continue the series against Southeastern.
