Chris Johnson delivered a clutch performance in round one of the conference tournament, powering the Bobcats to a dominant 14-3 win over Louisburg College.
Johnson drove in five runs on four hits, including a two-run double in the third, a solo home run in the fifth, another RBI double in the sixth, and an RBI single in the seventh. The Bobcats struck first in the second inning with a Dakota Doll double and never looked back, building momentum with a string of timely hits from Diego Melendez, Johnson, and Justin Smith in the third.

Tied at eight in the bottom of the ninth, Chris Johnson came through in the clutch with a game-winning double to center field, scoring the deciding run. The Bobcats rallied late, tying the game in the eighth on RBI singles by Diego Melendez and Dakota Doll, followed by a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt from Justin Smith. After the Patriots briefly regained the lead in the top of the ninth, the Bobcats responded with back-to-back doubles from Nelson Zapata and Johnson to seal the win.
Despite a rough start, the Bobcats' bullpen held firm. Hector Norreiga was stellar in relief, tossing 6.1 shutout innings while allowing just three hits and striking out four. Offensively, the Bobcats totaled 11 hits in the high-scoring contest. Josh Smith set the tone from the leadoff spot with a 3-for-5 performance, while Doll and Johnson each drove in two runs. Quarles and Zapata also chipped in with multiple hits.
With the win, the Bobcats advance to their first conference semifinal in program history, continuing a historic run through the tournament and extending a season ending win streak carried into the tournament at five in a row.
The Bobcats fell in heartbreaking fashion in the conference semifinal of the conference tournament, dropping a 4-3 walk-off decision to Catawba Valley Red Hawks on Sunday.
After tying the game in the ninth on a single by Chris Johnson, the Bobcats battled through three extra innings before Catawba Valley clinched the win with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 12th. Despite out-hitting the Red Hawks 14-13, the Bobcats couldn't capitalize on key opportunities, leaving the door open for the walk-off finish.
Nelson Zapata and Diego Melendez paced the Bobcats' offense with three hits each, while Josh Smith and Justin Smith added multiple hits in the tough loss. Derek Arrocha kept the team alive with 6.1 strong innings of relief, striking out eight and allowing just one run. With the loss, the Bobcats now enter the elimination bracket and will face the winner of Patrick & Henry vs. Brunswick for a chance to play their way back into the conference championship. Opening pitch is set for 6pm.
